Whether you are an art lover, a local, or a tourist, you will undoubtedly appreciate and get inspired by the 12th BLEACH* Festival.

BLEACH* is Australia’s longest-running and most exciting contemporary art event, lasting 11 days. Yes, such days are jam-packed with stunning arts and cultural experiences. It will transpire from August 3 to 13, 2023, with various programs in five sites. BLEACH* festivities are in North Burleigh, Broadbeach Cultural Precinct, Gold Coast Botanical Gardens, Home of the Art (HOTA), and Currumbin Valley, among others throughout the city.

Here is your guide to some fantastic programs at the 12th BLEACH* Festival this August.

FIRST LIGHT – HEARTLAND: August 3

Head to North Burleigh Beach at Love Your Local North Burleigh Hub for the start of the BLEACH* Festival. As the yearly celebration begins, you can bury your toes into the sand of Burleigh Beach and see the first rays bounce off the sea. William Barton, Australia’s leading didgeridoo player, composer, and violinist Véronique Serret will perform on the first day. First Light – Heartland will give you a strong sense of belonging to your country.

BLEACH* AT NORTH BURLEIGH: August 4 to 6 and 11 to 13

Head to Ed Hardy Park on these dates because it is family-friendly and free, though some events require reservations. You can learn how to create fire and play traditional drums while sitting in the shade of the Norfolk pines and listening to some of the Gold Coast’s top performers.

ACOUSTIC LIFE OF SHEDS: August 5 and 6

Get in your car and drive via winding roads into the verdant Currumbin Valley, where this year’s musical experience awaits. The intimate performances in the iconic country shed showcase the stage’s hidden secrets.

EMBERS: August 12 and 13

Go and experience. This engaging session is ideal for families and children of all ages, as Aboriginal artist and master fire starter Rick Roser teaches traditional practices. At Ed Hardy Park, gather together and learn the traditional skill of string making before handcrafting fire.

IT’S A CELEBRATION: til August 13

This BLEACH* project by First Nation artist Lisa Sorbie Martin presents a visual feast of colourful flags across Burleigh to encourage community and togetherness. It’s A Celebration is a vibrantly coloured depiction of the lifestyle inspired by living on the Gold Coast. Explore this outdoor gallery with your loved ones.
