It’s once again that time of year. The biggest nostalgia festival in Australia, which honours the vehicles, music, and way of life from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, is returning. On June 7–11, 2023, Cooly Rocks On Festival will take place throughout Coolangatta’s streets, parks, and venues on the Gold Coast.
Cooly Rocks On, the largest of its kind in Australia, started in 2011. It lasts for five days and is a celebration of everything rock n roll, including the way of life, dancing, and outlandish attire that goes with it. One hundred thirty-six thousand delighted attendees turned out for the 2022 event. Given the outstanding roster of talent, organisers anticipate that it will surpass that figure in 2023.

Incredible displays for die-hard motor enthusiasts
The festival is a favourite among die-hard car enthusiasts since it hosts memorable events like Show ‘N’ Shine! This fantastic exhibition will feature over 900 automobiles and cover almost two kilometres of Coolangatta. You may also participate in Car Runs and socialise with other auto enthusiasts at Balter Brewing or SEVEN82MOTORS!
A Saturday night car cruise may be fun. On June 10, drive around Coolangatta’s famous roads with pride and joy. Do you want to see more vehicles from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s? Make your way to Goodwin Park. And for some custom cars, visit Kustomville for a taste of Kustom Kulture.
Best rock’ n’ roll, swing, and rockabilly
Rock ‘n’ roll and swing enthusiasts are in for a real treat at the festival, which is jam-packed with entertaining events. First, Australia’s favourite rockabilly, swing, and rock ‘n’ roll musicians from around the nation and beyond are always on the festival’s rocking lineup.

If you didn’t know, Cooly Rocks On is one of just two festivals in Australia to host the official preliminary round of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, an Elvis Presley Enterprises-approved competition, with the winner going directly to Elvis Week in Memphis. At the ultimate after-party, you may also belt out some of The King’s greatest hits! Come for a memorable evening with UETA contestants, VIP Legends Pass holders, and others.

Without honouring the way of life from the past, Cooly Rocks On would not be the celebration it is. The Cooly Rocks On Moonlight Swing Dance, a party with a 1940s theme that gives guests plenty of time to dance the night away, and the Cooly Rocks On Pin-up Pageant both honour the classic and rockabilly fashions.
The recently added Beachside Rock ‘n’ Roll Dance is also for those looking to keep their feet active on the dance floor. That’s not all, though! There are many markets along the seaside where you can find vintage items, retro goods, and relics from bygone decades.
